Scholars Strategy Network San Diego - Translating Research into Action to Address Housing Insecurity
Alongside Dr. Odilka Santiago (Assistant Professor of Sociology, University of San Diego) and Dr. Lianne Urada (Associate Professor of Social Work, San Diego State University), I discussed how I use community-driven and change-oriented research to decommodifying practice and more equitable, sustainable housing policy. I highlighted how my participatory action research supports community land trusts and limited equity housing cooperatives in the San Diego region, particularly how I advocate for technical assistance and resources alongside practitioners.
The Social Study San Diego - From Crisis to Community: Community Land Trusts, Co-ops, and a Different Path Forward
Alongside Grant Ruroede (Senior Planner, City of San Diego Planning Department, Housing Section), I spoke for a public audience at Kairoa Brewing Company in University Heights. We discussed the systematic and policy problems in our housing system and then outlined what community land trusts and limited equity housing cooperatives are, how they create more equitable housing outcomes, and how they concentrate decision-making power in the hands of tenants and residents.

Craft Beer Professionals Spring Virtual Conference - Breweries & Cities: Building Effective Relationships
This panel highlights chapters from a recently published volume, Craft Breweries & Cities: Perspectives from the Field. Panelists discuss how craft breweries are meaningful contributors and participants in addressing demographic and geographic trends; community, economic and workforce development; gentrification; land use, zoning, and other regulations; racial equity and sustainability; and crime. Common themes also include the importance of "place" and beer tourism.
California Issues Forum - Housing & Homelessness
The California Issues Forum assembled scholars and community-based advocates across California who are working on social and economic policy issues, to discuss opportunities to better align in their efforts to promote improved opportunities and outcomes for California workers, families and communities in need. Sadly, the recording had issues, but the remaining video contains concluding thoughts from panelists on challenges to collaboration and cooperation between academics and practitioners, as well as some comments and questions from audience members.
